In support of Small Business Saturday, we are catching up with a few of our amazing indies. Today we are sharing the story of Kasia from Platts Jewellers.
Tell us a bit about your business:
Our business Platts Jewellers & Pawnbrokers isn’t just a shop or just a job, Our beloved business is who we are.
We first opened in Middleton Shopping centre 38 years ago, after buying the business from Mrs Horton who had also been a jeweller there for many years before retiring. During these past 38 years not only as our business grown but our customer relationships have grown, we had the privilege to get to know people by their first names, their families and have experienced with them weddings, births and even deaths.
When someone looks in our shop window, each item that is on display has been hand chosen by us. Unlike conventional high street jewellers who are sent items to sell and told how to display, we take our time lovingly choosing precious pieces of jewellery that we would love to receive and are proud to sell. We acknowledge that jewellery is a luxury and is mainly bought for a special occasion and that is why we take so much pride in our collection and each time we do sell a piece of jewellery it fills us with joy knowing that the ring, pendant, bracelet, earrings, baby bangle whatever they item may be will very soon become even more special to the recipient than it is to us.
How important is it for people to shop local this year:
When people shop local, they will receive a personal service and more often than not by someone they know. They have the opportunity to talk and discuss who the gift is for and why if they want to, ask advise and even put the world to rights if that makes them happy to. They are valued as a person not just a customer and over the past 38 years our business has grown on that customer service and trust. We gratefully thank everyone of our customers past, present & future because their custom & loyalty has given us the opportunity to get up every day and open the doors to our beloved shop and love every single moment of being there.
