The clinic, based at Middleton Health Centre, opened its doors on Friday 11th January 2021 meaning there are now three such hubs operating in Rochdale borough. Those currently being prioritised for the vaccine are people aged 80 and over as well as care home and healthcare workers.
Vaccinations at the centre, in Middleton Shopping Centre, are by appointment only and people will be invited for a jab at the appropriate time.
Dr Louise Thompson, who is based at The Hive Health Centre, has welcomed the development. She said: “It’s a positive day for patients in Middleton that we can now deliver the vaccination programme in the heart of their community. GPs and our teams are delivering the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the community whilst also delivering the vaccine at some of the largest nursing homes in the borough.”
“Patients will be contacted and invited for vaccination – we would urge them not to contact their GP practice enquiring about vaccinations, as we will contact them.”
The vaccination programme is being run by groups of GPs with support from the council and CCG. The vaccinations will be administered by clinically-trained staff on a strictly appointment-only basis. Residents will be invited by letter and will be booked a second appointment when attending for their first vaccination.
The centre will be open between 8am and 6pm on days when vaccinations are taking place.
